Surfing Kobachi
Literally translating to 'little bowl' in Japanese, kobachi provide a diversity of utility in any tablescape. This kobachi features a top-knotted surfer catching a wave.
Initially encouraged by watching a neighbour practicing pottery, Junko Shindo was inspired by the idea of creating vessels for everyday life.
After pursuing an academic path in ceramics, Junko Shindo honed their unique and playful approach to pottery design by showing at exhibitions and festivals across Japan.
The whimsical, top-knotted designs by Motif are driven by the hopes of subverting expectations of Japanese pottery, and perhaps mystifying future archeologists.
